BlackCelebrityGiving.com launched its social media contest on June 27th, the rules were simple: have people who support your organization like us on Facebook  or Follow us on Twitter , mention your organization and win money! The two organizations with the most votes would take the cash; it gives us great pleasure to announce our two winners from Oakland California SEM Link and from Alcolu, South Carolina Have Faith Development Corporation!

Both organizations will receive $500 to further their missions and support social change in their respective communities. Read more about both organizations below and stay tuned to BCG for future contests as we continue to foster opportunities for social change in communities across the world!

Company History

Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link, Inc. (SEM Link), a tax-exempt nonprofit organization, was founded in 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia on the premise that exposure to members of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) communities is critical to student achievement and career exploration.  We connect K-12 students to individuals with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering and mathematics in order to expose them to positive adult role models that have a passion and expertise for these areas. SEM Link through its two core programs, Experimental Design Program and Math and Science Career Academy, has enhanced educational experiences for over 1000 Metro Atlanta youths. In January 2010, SEM Link expanded its programming to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Contest Winner Have Faith Development Corporation- Alcolu, South Carolina

The mission of Have Faith Community Development Corporation is to improve the needs of children and adults from all walks of life. The Have Faith Community Development Corporation (HFCDC) develops and operates educational, community and economic development programs that empower low wealth children and families.The center which is located in Alcolu, South Carolina is situated on land that was once the site of a saw mill . The organization founded the Mother Geneva Johnson Academy to educate troubled children. The mission of MGJ Academy is to provide a complete spectrum of educational opportunities that prepare each individual student to meet the ever-increasing “knowledge economy” and to help guide them in the development of their character and academic potential so they can contribute to their families and others.

The Mother Geneva Johnson Academy, named after the late mother of the school’s CEO, Bishop D. L. Johnson, has enrolled students who were labeled “non-achievers”, “traunts” and “disciplinary problems” and turned them into college bound and college enrolled students.

100% of our students graduate.
100% continue on to Higher Education.
80% of our students complete their high school course work a year early.
100% received 10 or more college credits while in high school.
