Gabrielle Union An Ever-Present Voice in the Fight Against Sexual Abuse

Gabrielle Union

The Year of Gabby! I have always had a girl crush on Gabrielle Union ever since Bring It On, as I was a cheerleader at the time, the movie was my all-time favorite and my love for her started then. Fast forward to present day and I find myself resonating with Gabby more and more, this year has been a good one for her too, her hit show Being Mary Jane, received rave reviews and set records with views, thus landing a second season, just before the new year she was engaged and through it all she still finds a way to give back to a cause that is near and dear to her heart. Few may know this, but Gabrielle Union has made it no secret that she was sexually assaulted when she was younger, and now she is bravely speaking out as a survivor. Last Saturday Gabrielle was the co-host of the Call of the Game Dinner, which honors the work of the people “behind the scenes” who make a difference in our community. The Dinner featured a silent and live auction filled with fantastic trips, memorabilia, one of a kind experiences and much more. Honorees this year included: LeBron James, James Jones and Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford.

On Instagram she shared a personal message with her millions of followers.

“I was honored to co-host the #callofthegamedinner to speak about being a rape survivor and to highlight #laurenskids foundation that helps children who’ve been abused. It is NEVER easy to talk about my journey from rape victim to survivor but I recognize the greater good that comes from my speaking out. I live for the day when I don’t hear ‘It happened to me too’ … That day hasn’t come yet… So I continue to do the work… Whatever it takes. Always remember you aren’t alone, ppl DO care, and there IS help. So to all the survivors, to all the strong but don’t know it yet and ESP to all those struggling to find hope… Love, Light, Healing and Many Blessings”.

Aww… Gabby thanks for being a voice to victims everywhere. To learn more about Lauren’s Kids, which brings hope for victims of childhood sexual abuse, visit laurenskids.org.
