Charity Spotlight: Sydney’s Book Club, Promoting Early Reading In Children Ages 3-5!

Sydney's Book ClubThe knowledge of the world is locked away in books, that’s why here at BCG literacy and reading is a cause we champion proudly. Always on the hunt to spotlight nonprofits doing amazing things, I think I fell a bit in love with today’s charity spotlight Sydney’s Book Club. Established in 2011 by mother Tiffany Dickerson, a stay at home mom dedicated to challenging her 3 year old daughter Sydney, daily to live out her full potential. The purpose of Sydney’s Book Club is to encourage early reading and literacy skills; to enhance a child’s view of reading; to express that reading is fun; to create proficient readers; to influence good behavior and build self-esteem; to promote positive parent -child interaction; to build stronger families and be effective within the communities in which each club exist and to influence the nations reading and literacy statistics for the better.

The organization’s slogan is “Learn and Love to Read with Me”  at an early age books became her interest, leading her mother to plan her 2 year old birthday party around a book club theme, which started the idea of “Sydney’s Book Club.”  This party received such rave reviews from its attendees that Tiffany set out on a challenge to get her child reading by her 3rd birthday. A quite impressive Sydney was definitely up to the challenge. After hitting her mark before 3 and amazing others in the process, Tiffany knew that if her child could accomplish this task, then others her age should be granted the same opportunity and we agree!

Sydney’s Book Club provides both a Mom’s Club, and Playgroup type environment, while at the core there is an educational tool that can influence, support, and be a precursor to the foundation of early academic achievement. While attending bookclub, children will be introduced to new words, along with teaching letter recognition and sound, followed by a creative activity/craft which will be centered around the book of the day. Children‘s desire to read will be ignited by their ability to recall story time, and identify words when traveling about their little walks of daily life. Parents will be excited about their little one’s eagerness to learn and new ability that they will continue to challenge their kids on a more consistent basis.

Sydney’s Book Club programs are designed to stimulate vocabulary, infuse word recognition, and advance comprehension, while encouraging positive parent-child interaction, exploration, and embedding the notion that reading is fun. Our inspiration is to both evoke change in our national reading and literacy statistics, and to strengthen homes, by creating proficient readers for a better tomorrow, helping to prepare the youngest children to be productive students, employees and members of their communities. If  you love it as much as me, support them with your like on Facebook, your follow on Twitter or visit them at www.sydneysbookclub.org to learn other ways to donate and get involved.
