9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance Project in NYC Part of National Movement to Create Single Largest Day of Charitable Service in U.S. History in Tribute to the Victims, Survivors and Heroes of 9/11 Attacks!

500 Volunteers, Celebrities, Community and Business Leaders to Revitalize Schools and Neighborhoods to Commemorate 10-Year Anniversary of Sept. 11

WHAT: Across New York and around the nation, more than one million people are expected to engage in good deeds and charitable service as part of the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. MyGoodDeed, a prominent 9/11 nonprofit, and HandsOn Network, the volunteer activation division of Points of Light Institute, along with other nonprofits and the 9/11 community have encouraged all Americans to observe the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 by performing good deeds, supporting charitable causes and volunteering in the community in tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors and those who roses in service in response to the attacks (911day.org).

In partnership with New York Cares, the city’s leading volunteer organization, more than 500 volunteers will work on six service projects on the Lower East Side helping out the community including: revitalization work and a mural painting at PS 140 M – Nathan Straus School, organize an emergency preparedness kit assembly project for neighborhood residents, and build GoBags with the Office of Emergency Management. Some of the volunteers will also do revitalization work at PS 188 M – The Island School, The Lower East Side Ecology Center at East River Park, and the Henry Street Settlement Urban Family Center. Similar community service projects are also happening around New York and across the country throughout the weekend.
