Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority to Hold its 9th Public Policy Conference in Washington, D.C.

The Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority will explore ways to progress its civic social and legislative agenda when it hosts its 9th Public Policy Conference in Washington D.C., September 19-21. The theme of this year’s three-day event is: “The Time is Now!”

The conference, which will be led by Soror Leyser P. Hayes, the chairman of the International Connection Committee, represents AKA’s commitment to shaping policy and legislation in our government. Stewart stated the need is even more crucial today considering the unemployment, mental and physical illness, and poverty issues that plague African-Americans in disproportionate numbers. Alpha Kappa Alpha seeks to address these problems.

In making her announcement, Supreme Basileus Carolyn House Stewart declared: “The Time is Now for us to engage in serious dialogue about these challenges as we move from advocacy to action to obtain effective results. The Public Policy Conference will provide that forum where we can go from dialogue to action.”

The discussions at the conference will focus on local, national ,and global challenges and how leaders can work cohesively to find programs to address these dilemmas. Members who attend the conference will have the opportunity to network and converse with experts about program initiatives that impact our community. Sorors will also have a chance to visit senators and congressional representatives to advocate for issues of importance to their individual regions.
