BCG Change-Maker: Michael Tucker

Michael Tucker created  the Lay the Guns Down Campaign, which was inspired in 2005 after the loss of his oldest son, due to gun violence. Mr. Tucker used this traumatic experience as a catalyst for change; instead of being upset at the world he decided devoted his time to bringing about change and striving to make sure that no other family has to feel the pain of losing a loved one due to gun violence.

With the help of celebrities, politicians, entertainers, and others who have experienced the same type of loss as Mr. Tucker is making this campaign a worldwide success and educating the masses about the dangers and repercussions associated with gun violence.

Lay the Guns Down Campaign is a grassroots community-based organization, whose mission is to educate young men and women about the serious affects of gun violence and violence in general. They aim to implement educational and
extracurricular activity resources to steer youth away from guns and gang violence.

Lay the Guns Down Campaign has partnered up with TeenNewsNet.com and the Hip-Hop summit council to create positive and uplifting alternative opportunities for teens.  They are  also bringing about a change through the M.A.P.S. (Multiple Alternative Paths to Success) for Teens newspaper. This newspaper is geared towards helping teens achieve success by put them in contact with different youth organizations that have mentoring programs, apprenticeships and college-bound programs.

Mr. Tucker has been featured on: News 12 Brooklyn, NY1 news as New Yorker of the week  and Amsterdam news. He has been a
sponsor for the Black Noise Media Launch party, a  spokesman at the the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Lobby Day and has held forums with the NYC Mayors office to discuss the Lay the Guns Down Campaign.

At BCG we too agree, that we need to do everything on our power to end gun violence and co-sign Mr. Tucker’s “Lay the Guns Down” campaign!
