Best Charity Event of the Year Award

Check out the nominations for our finalists for BCG Best Charity Event of 2011!

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter Foundation Carnival
The Shawn Carter Foundation carnival at NYC’s Pier 54 Making The Ordinary Extraordinary event was amazing. All proceeds benefited NY students and helped raise more than $1 million dollars for education. As an active socialite I can tell you this event was different, I have attended gala after gala and it’s always the same thing, a nice hotel ballroom and the same chicken meal. Jay-Z went above and beyond, plenty of celebrities were in attendance including: Beyoncé, Alex Rodriguez, Steve Stoute and more. I would like to nominate the Shawn Carter for foundation for this event and for helping send kids who need it most to college.

Big Kidz Foundation Eyes Wide Shut Costume Gala
Big Boi and the Big Kidz Foundation are a giving staple here in Atlanta. There is in my opinion no one in the Atlanta area that remains committed to their foundation as much as Big Boi. I had the pleasure of attending his costume party and it was amazing. He should totally be honored for all that he is doing for youth here in Atlanta.

St. Jude Soul Gala Atlanta
This was the best charity event in Atlanta in 2011! Ne-Yo, Elise Neal and Terri Vaughn shined as they gave us the audience a true glimpse of what it is that St.Jude’s does. One of the things that touched my heart the most is the patients who spoke, there were two little girls who were patients and to hear their mom talk about what it is that St.Jude’s does and how their work is vital to her daughters living bought tears to my eyes. I was so pleased to see some of Atlanta’s elite come out for this affair. I am truly honored to nominate this event for the Best Charity Event of the Year, I hope that St.Jude will continue to hold this event as it was the first year, it was incredible, needed and heartwarming to say the least.

Steve and Marjorie Harvey Girls Mentoring Weekend
Hello, I am submitting my nomination for Steve and Marjorie Harvey’s Girls Rule the World Mentoring Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. My daughter had the opportunity to participate in the two day event and while I was able to attend one of the workshops and all I could thing is how I wish I was able to attend such an event when I was younger. The presenters, volunteers, panelists and Mrs. Harvey were all amazing. They made the girls feel empowered and important, I felt that my daughter loved herself more. I only wish events like this could be held all around the country, because our girls need to believe in themselves and love themselves.

4th Annual Dwayne Wade W3 Weekend
Dwayne Wade is such an amazing young man. I have personally witnessed him working with kids in the community through his various programs and I just love him for giving back. I took my son and nephew to his basketball camp and talent show and they had the best time. Dwayne Wade has been doing this for years and it’s good to give these young boys a positive black male to look up to. I believe his weekend is the best charity event and I want to nominate Dwayne Wade for his efforts and I hope he wins.
