Breaking the Chains of Generational Curses to Host Youth Summit on May 11th in Atlanta, GA!

Gwinnet Youth Summit

Breaking the Chains of Generational Curses B.C.G.C. a Non-Profit Organization with a mission is to offer at risk and abused young women the chance to be a champion of their surroundings, by being offered youth services and programs that will provide them with the attributes needed to be a self sufficient professional as an adult and non reliant upon government provided services to survive. B.C.G.C. is dedicated to providing services that will protect our youth’s future.

The founder Sharlene Bates, believes it  is our duty as a community to educate our youth and that’s what she plans to do as she hosts the Gwinnett Youth Summit on Saturday, May 11th, an Educational expo designed to bring awareness about Social, Physical, and Health Education to Gwinnett County, a suburb of Atlanta, family oriented community. Without a doubt a summit like this is much needed now more than ever. This is a free public event that will encourage and motivate youth and parents to encourage youth to be more aware of their surroundings and how they can adversely affect their future.

Check the facts:
“Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled, and today, nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. The numbers are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities, where nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. If we don’t solve this problem, one third of all children born in 2000 or later will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives. Many others will face chronic obesity-related health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and asthma.” (Let’s Move – Michele Obama LetsMove.com)

“DeKalb and Gwinnett counties are among 25 school districts that account for 16 percent of all teen births in the United States, according to a new report released by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. According to the report, the DeKalb County School District graduation rate is 49.6 percent with a projected amount of graduates of 5,550, and a total number of teen births of 1,112. As of June of 2012 2 counties in GA are considered “Dropout Factories.” (www.thenationalcampaign.org)

“In 2009 texting and driving became the #1 killer of teen drivers.” National Highway Traffic Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/. Through events like this Youth Summit we can work towards keeping the community at large safe. We can educate young adult and teen drivers to not kill themselves or possibly someone else being distracted with texting while driving. The benefit of this social health expo/block party will be to educate the DeKalb, Rockdale, Henry, Clayton and Fulton communities about the dangers of texting while driving and cyber risk.

The Gwinnett County Youth Summit, is just the vehicle needed to provide awareness and education to the community. I love to support and promote events that seek to create social change right in the heart of their individual communities.
