Charity Spotlight: Circle of Discipline

Circle of Discipline mission is to provide youth and young adults with alternative programs and enrichment activities that address their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs. This is there way of initiating a 360 degrees of balance, which empowers the young adults to reach their full potential and become positive leaders in their communities, cities, state, and in a global society.

Circle of Discipline, Inc. was founded in 1993 by Mr. Sankara Frazier. Born and raised in South Minneapolis, Sankara witnessed the deterioration of Minneapolis communities and families and began volunteering as an amateur boxing coach in metro area gyms in an effort to give back to the community. Realizing that coaching was simply not enough to help the young adults living in poverty-stricken communities which were deepened  with violence, crime, substance abuse, prostitution,he formed the Circle Of Discipline.

Over the years they have accomplished many things. In 2005 Circle of Discipline was awarded a multi-year grant from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. In 2006 Sankara Frazier was awarded the Martin Luther King, Jr. “Local Legend” award for his outstanding work in the community. In 2010 Circle of Discipline partnered with Brooklyn Park Police “Punches with a Purpose” program to serve youth and young adults in the Brooklyn Park area.

They have two programs which they use in order to create this 360 degrees of balance.

The Challenge Program: This reinforces students’ academic progress, pride in learning, pride in their heritage and communities, and to enhance each student’s potential to graduate from high school, go to college and become active, contributing leaders of their local and global communities as thriving adults.

Lifestyles FIT Program: The goal of this program is to encourage healthy living through exercise, nutrition, positive sleeping habits, and a safe alcohol, drug and tobacco‐free lifestyle, which students, their families and communities need to reach their full potential.
