Charity Spotlight: Committed to Uplifting Single Parents (C.U.S.P)

It is  C.U.S.P. (Committed to Uplifting Single Parents) mission to empower and assist single parents with the difficult challenges of parenthood through a range of financial and social services which will allow them to provide safe and loving homes for their children.

C.U.S.P. (Committed to Uplifting Single Parents) is a nonprofit organization providing a range of social and financial programs for single parent families in the Greater Los Angeles area and its surrounding communities.  C.U.S.P.’s goal is to provide a vast selection of resources to both the parent and children including but not limited to life skills programs, seminars, financial literacy, personal enrichment opportunities and financial help with the necessities of life.

Approximately 14 million single parents in the United States are responsible for raising 21 million of our nation’s children with 83% being single mothers and 16% being single fathers.  As single parents, both men and women face difficult, complicated decisions. Most single mothers and fathers work full-time jobs. However, according to single parent family statistics, even though the majority of mothers work full times jobs, 27% of these families live in poverty and approximately the same percentage receive public assistance. According to statistics, approximately 11% of single fathers live in poverty. The 2009 American Community Survey (ACS) reports approximately 40% of children in Los Angeles are living in single parent families. It is because of statistics such as these that C.U.S.P. was organized to provide assistance to single parent families (male or female householder with no spouse present) to empower and equip all members of the single parent family and place them among the communities most successful families.

C.U.S.P. is an organization that is in direct response to the growing number of single parent families who need assistance because of the current economic conditions and find themselves in distress.  The goal of the organization is to serve the families who are trying to survive during this very difficult economic time and to ensure our services are available for them on an ongoing basis.

  • Our Vision: that the volunteers &community will see the importance of strengthening the single parent family because it will have a positive affect on society for generations to come.
