Charity Spotlight: Coney Island Lighthouse Mission

The mission of the Coney Island Lighthouse Mission is simple in words but powerful in action: to feed the poor, and house the homeless. The organization prides themselves on being a place of love and having compassion for people who are hurting and in need. The activities for the foundation’s constituents are so numerous it seems almost incredulous that such a little place can do so much. They primarily are an emergency food provider that distributes groceries to over 300 people per week, once on Tuesday and twice on Thursday.

Additionally, Coney Island Lighthouse Mission is a soup kitchen that provides a delicious community dinner every Friday night to anyone who is hungry. On Sundays, the pastor, Vincent Fusco, who is also the CEO of the program, holds a wonderful church sermon. During the school year Coney Island Lighthouse Mission conducst a daily after-school program for the children in the community and during the winter they host a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner, a coat drive and a huge Christmas toy drive.

The volunteers at Coney Island Lighthouse Mission are cheerful, energetic, and generous coming from all walks of life. The Coney Island Community Kitchen serves hot meals to the public every Friday evening at 6:30 PM.

The chef prepares a wide variety of dishes from different cuisines each week. A voluntary religious service often follows our Friday meals. The Community Kitchen also serves hot snacks every school day  to the students in our after-school program. Through their work with the Coney Island Coalition, a new benefits outreach program has enabled us to provide free screening for public benefits and housing placement with a professional case worker. To say the least without a doubt the Coney Island Lighthouse Mission is certainly giving back and spreading great cheer! We salute the efforts of the staff and volunteers who make this possible.
