Charity Spotlight: Multi Media Training Institute

Their  mission is to inform, educate and inspire youth and young adults to achieve their full potential using the tools of media, computer technology, the performing arts and entrepreneurship.

Multi-Media Training Institute (MMTI) Inc., a 501(c)3 media production and training corporation, has trained over 1000 youth and young adults in the Washington, DC area for the past 20 years. There targeted population is youth and young adults from ages 14 to 22 and who are considered “high risk” individuals. While they accept participants from the entire area of the District of Columbia, most of the students come from Wards 7 and 8.

Through there after-school/out-of-school training and entrepreneurial programs, they provide empowering alternatives to divert youth from the activities and lifestyles that often render them at risk of educational failure and involvement with the juvenile justice system.

Lyn Dyson, Founder of Multi-Media Training Institute is a graduate of Howard University School of Communications and founded MMTI 25 years ago. He was a member of the DC Black Repertory Company, founded by Robert Hooks, and the Executive Director of the Rep, Inc. a spin-off theatre company from the Black Rep. He has been a Producer for BET, NPR, and PBS, acted off Broadway with Debbie Allen, Glen Thurman, Leon Thomas, and many other musicians and actors, but Lyn feels his greatest contribution is working with his young people through MMTI. Recently he opened with other partners Studio W, a TV studio, and began broadcasting a weekly television show on Comcast for and by young people. Lyn asks everyone to pass the word about MMTI and our new website.

He says “Young people are our future and the future is NOW!”
