    PEACE-YOUTH MAKING IT HAPPEN

“We want to help youth across the country to combine their creativity and energy to become peacemakers by implementing social engagement strategies to increase youth violence prevention awareness,” says 17-year-old Atlanta high school student and group organizing student president Cesar Chavez. “It’s about helping young people to live to their fullest potential and communities that become better places for all of us to live.”
This week a high school student attending the same school as Cesar was shot in the face with a shotgun.
Violence is a serious problem in the United States. From infants to the elderly, it affects people in all stages of life. In 2007, more than 180,000 people were victims of homicide and more than 34,000 took their own lives. The number of violent deaths tells only part of the story. Many more survive violence and are left with permanent physical and emotional scars. Violence also erodes communities by reducing productivity, decreasing property values, and disrupting social services.
Because you are a diligent business enthusiast, it is highly probable that you have at one point observed several elements in the process of coming together in a way that says this is it… this is going to be big. This past summer, our Warriors for Life mentoring members held brainstorming
sessions on how they could mobilize young people across the country to take responsibility of their own space and get equipped to have great life outcomes.
Our youth members consist of college, high school, and middle school students, including three 2010–11 winners of $360,000 Bill Gates Millennium Scholarships. They invited Morehouse School of Medicine Professor James Griffin, founder of the 260-member Metropolitan Atlanta Violence Prevention Partnership (MAVPP) to discuss youth violence prevention strategies. Our young people were particularly interested in learning about strategies that address solutions to the problems, not that which identifies the problems all over again.
Young people are full of creative ideas, open to fresh opinions, energetic, and enthusiastic. When they become laser beam focus on something it is destined to happen.
The youth social engagement promotion video was designed to encourage boys and girls; children, teenagers, and young adults to get equipped with violence prevention principles, strategies and engagement techniques to create an orange sensation to make peace happen!
The Rock of Escape Warriors for Life college board mentors and high school members from the New Schools of Carver School of Health Sciences & Research produced the video in collaboration with the Metropolitan Atlanta Violence Prevention Partnership.
The Warriors for Life invites schools, churches, and youth groups to watch the video that gives 10 strategies that youth can use to become peacemakers by planning youth violence prevention awareness promotions.
