Award-winning singer and actress, Beyonce Knowles, started the Beyonce Cosmetology Center with her mother and business partner, Tina Knowles. The Center was added to the Phoenix House Career Academy which is a drug rehabilitation center located in Brooklyn, New York. The Knowles’ center offers adults seven months of cosmetology training. The students, who are mostly women from Phoenix House, are taught the necessary skills to meet the New York State Cosmetology Licensure Exam requirements. They also learn customer service skills and how to work with computer software and are given job placement assistance. The Beyonce Cosmetology Center not only gives students rigorous training in the field, but it also provides them with vital skills to build a long-lasting career.
