The Breakfast Group is an organization of African American business and professional men that has been active in the Seattle, Washington community for more than 30 years, with its origin beginning in 1976. One of the primary focuses of our organization is to provide support for youth in achieving their educational objectives.
The mission of The Breakfast Group is to bring together African American men of true value for community service and to provide economic empowerment through leadership. The organization believes that these activities enhance the quality of life in the African American community.
One of the signature events of the Breakfast Group is the ‘Annual Tie One On Luncheon.’ Having just celebrated their 21st year, the purpose of this event, is to honor students by pairing each one with a member of the business or professional community, who acts as the student’s host for lunch.
Each student receives a necktie and a pair of hard sole shoes, a symbol of passage into adulthood. This is an important event that provides an opportunity for respected members of the community to mentor and bond with an “at risk” youth. In the twenty-one years that we have had this event, we have been able to touch the lives of more than 1,500 “at risk” youth in our communities. This annual event has always had a great speaker with a special message for our youth.
