{Throwback Thursday} Charity Spotlight: The Fellaz Youth Foundation

About The Fellaz Youth Foundation:
In 2004, a group of 10 young men formed The Fellaz: The Circle of Success with the purpose of hosting events to provide opportunities for young professionals to network and fellowship. As The Fellaz evolved and became more involved in the community, the need for positive young male role models became more apparent. To fill this void The Fellaz decided to launch The Fellaz Youth Foundation.

The Mission:
To empower, enlighten, and uplift our youth, with a specific focus on young men. Through mentoring, tutoring, college preparation, and other workshops that teach everyday life skills. The Fellaz Youth Foundation will encourage our youth to dare to dream and to walk the pathway to achieve personal success.

The Dream Tour:
The Fellaz Youth Foundation Dream Tour provides issue specific, age appropriate forums to middle and high school students in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Each forum covers a specific topic relating to the overall theme “Dare to Dream”. Examples of topics discussed on the Dream Tour, includes the importance of academic excellence, turning dreams into reality, respect, self-esteem, and entering a career right after high school vs. going to college and the potential impact of the decision.

Mentoring
Through mentoring in the community the Fellaz hope to have a major personal and professional impact on young men between the ages of 13-19 years old. The Fellaz Youth Foundation wants to help develop the next school teacher, the next Supreme Court Judge, or the next President of the United States of America. Studies have shown that a child who has a positive role model(s) in their life is more likely to be successful academically and in their personal relationships with others. Children with a mentor are also less likely to use illegal drugs or drop out of school, studies show. As a component of the mentoring program, they plan to have regular field trips with mentees to places like local museums, local monuments, sporting events, and more.

College Preparation Workshops
The College Preparation Workshops will help high school students gain important information on applying to and planning for the college experience. Our workshops will help students understand the application and financial aid process, time management, personal budgeting, and much more.

Personal Development Workshops
By attending Personal Development Workshops, students will learn how prepare a resume, how to dress for success, interview do’s and don’ts, and other important professional and personal skills.
