Charity Spotlight: Ralph Sampson’s Winner’s Circle Foundation!

Winner’s Circle Foundation was founded by former NBA Great, Ralph Sampson, Jr., as a way to give back to the community in which he grew up. After traveling the world and seeing the needs that were systemic and equally challenging for all our children; he wanted his legacy to reach beyond the borders of his community by developing programs to support all of our youth and children across the US to better prepare them for the global world that they face. At the WCF we believe that all of our children deserve a chance to live to their fullest potential. We foster that belief by opening a pathway for success by encouraging limitless possibilities for urban and culturally diverse youth.

Mission: The Winner’s Circle Foundation’s mission is to help elementary, middle and high school students develop into leaders who positively influence their families and communities. We achieve our mission through the Winner’s Circle Foundation/Winner’s Circle Initiative.

Winner’s Circle Foundation Programs:

Winner’s Circle Back to School Bootcamp is a three day camp for boys & girls (4th -8th grade levels). The Back-to-School Bootcamp will cover the following areas: School Organizational Techniques, SOL & Testing Preparation, Developing Good Study Habits, Time Management, Goal Setting, Peer Pressure & Anti-Bullying Classes. Please contact us for either School or Student interest in this program.

Ruby Slippers Academy’s mission is the development of pre-school, elementary, and middle school females into young women who are positive leaders and role models in their respective communities. We strive to broaden their awareness and appreciation of themselves through providing a diversity of academic, cultural, social and service opportunities. Ruby Slippers Academy believes that a students decision to drop out are not based simply on their experiences in high school; instead, the pathway to dropping out appears to start much earlier. Ruby Slippers Academy is committed towards making the transition to high school and beyond for our young girls a smoother and more rewarding one to enable them to achieve success in high school and beyond.

WINNER’S CIRCLE MAP PROGRAM was developed to get students thinking and taking action in their educational futures. We want to show them how to create their own plan to success through what they learn in school for their future careers. We work in close partnership with community members, school officials, local colleges and universities, and parents to build a game plan/map for real success for all who participate. We seek to develop a road MAP for success and develop new knowledge, practice, capacity and leaders around youth development and learning. We literally get involved in the lives of the students, families and the communities whose children we serve. Each student enrolled in the program participates in the development of their personal MAP. Every student has a MAP Team that includes the student, parent/guardian, school staff and the WCF school coordinator. The team identifies goals; and following the MAP Plan, gives everyone a look at the progress being made toward those goals.

WCF Ambassador Program’s Mission is to bring together corporations and schools in order to enrich and enhance the lives of our youth. As a career shadowing partner we immerse each student into the world of work, where they can obtain first-hand information about job skills and careers. We believe that by bringing students into the workplace to see a corporate executive, marketing professional, or a health care technician at work; very real and tangible options come alive for them. WCF’s Ambassador Program provides exciting reasons why students should stay in school. It creates a critical link between education and success. The Ambassador Program can provide experiences that are as unique as every person who participates. For the students who have never understood the point of school, a career experience can show how education can be translated into a rewarding and financially secure future. For the teacher looking for new ways to motivate students, it can provide a fun and unusually hands-on experience that demonstrates the link between schoolwork and real life, answering the question, “Why do I have to learn this?” For those in the work place, being a host site can help forge personally satisfying connections with young people that could ultimately contribute to building a more prepared and focused workforce of tomorrow.
