I once read that an Aquarius would travel the world if they could and I thought, OMG that is so me. I love to travel, I have always enjoyed meeting new people, seeing new things and allowing my life to have been culturally impacted by and experience I never had before. So it was only natural that I feel in love with this organization Girls Going Global.
Girls Going Global is a social enterprise aiming to expose African American girls to the cultures of the world. The program which is based in Philadelphia, expresses that the public education system has been counter-productive in preparing the youth of America to be international game changers and doubly negligent in its preparation of African-American youth. That is a social paradigm that Girls Going Global is aggressively trying to address to better position African-Americans to be more active in international affairs and to increase their involvement in the mid-high-level decision-making processes that create the foreign policies that shape our world.
The long term goal of Girls Going Global is to empower girls through travel! Too often our girls are not exposed to more than their neighborhoods. We want to equip girls with passports and their first opportunities for travel outside of the U.S. We want our girls to go global and to strive to make travel apart of their lifestyles. Thus far, Girls Going Global has hosted a summer program to advocate for global engagement among adolescent girls and to educate them on the paths to global leadership.
Girls Going Global is prepped to host a Summer Global Engagement Program, a month-long weekend summer program that exposes girls to the way other adolescent girls live throughout the world. Cultures will be explored through food, language, religion, and the daily life of adolescent girls on the continents of South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. The focus of this summer program is to advocate for global engagement among adolescent girls and to educate them on the paths to global leadership. I love that the organization has already helped young girls get their passports, think of the kind of women these ladies will be simply from these experiences.
