Giving Back Sister 2 Sister, Supporting Domestic Violence Survivors in Brooklyn, NY

Beauty for the Bold NY

The Beauty for the Bold event supporting Domestic Violence survivors in Brooklyn was one word – AMAZING! It filled my heart with great joy to see so many women come together to simply give back, support and uplift one another. We see it all the time, black women should uplift each other and support one another instead of tearing each outer down, who hasn’t see this on Instagram, hell I think I may have posted or at least liked something like this myself. It’s a true statement as women, and as black women we should forever be our biggest supporters and I love that this is what BCG did on Thursday in East New York. I still blush at the fact that when I reached out to this particular shelter, part of the Help USA system, they couldn’t believe we could come to East New York, Brooklyn to give back to women and children. Hayley Carrington of Help USA stated to me ” Jasmine, these women have never had anything like this, they are going to be thrilled.”  And thrilled they were, with the support of our presenting sponsor Hairfinity and our partner in good, Jamie Foster Brown of Sister 2 Sister Magazine, a host of celebrity guests and our NY Ambassador Shenelle Lovings- Mays, we made over 60 women. The event featured a nail bar lead by Gina Hicks, a NY Fashion week approved make-up line where over 15 of the cities top celebrity make-up artist including Ashunta Sherrif  and Shenelle Lovings – Mays glammed up the residents, a hair consulting booth, food by the bite, cake pops and cupcakes courtesy of Fabipops and more.

DJ and Pop-Culture VH1 contributor Amanda Seales, provided the soundtrack to the night. A highlight was our Girlfriends Beauty Forum where our esteemed panelists which included East New York’s own Tionna Smalls, Nikki Walker from Dr. Miracles,  Beauty Editor Corynne Corbett, Shenelle Mays, Ashutnta Sheriff and Camara AUnique; the panel was moderated by our Celebrity Ambassador Jamie Foster Brown. Women were able to get questions on hair, make-up, skin and inner beauty questions answered by our panel. What I loved most about the panel is how our panelists opened up about their personal struggles with domestic violence and their true commitment to the women attending. We also had an affirmation station powered by GlassWinged  and it was one of my favorite things of the night. To see the women writing “I am Alive”, ” I am Free”, “I am a Survivor” gave me nothing but joy.  Jamie Foster Brown, Founder and CEO of Sister 2 Sister Magazine and Tashera Simmons, TV Star, Author and Ex-wife of DMX, got personal and really explored several facets of domestic violence, Tashera’s words were music to the heart of the women attending. She gave them hope and they gave it to her right back.  Tara Wallace of Love and Hip Hop NY also joined in on the conversation and got advice on leaving a negative situation. I’m excited to continue to take this effort to other cities, this is what life is about, giving back, serving and truly changing lives. Thanks to all of the phenomenal women who joined us for this feat, our presenting sponsor Hairfinity for making it happen, all of our stellar beauty brand partners, our volunteers and our loyal readers and supporters. Our next stop is Atlanta, December 2nd and if you want to help out, just shoot us an email GiveBack@BlackCelebrityGiving.com.
