Immersion Excursions is back, last year the organization travelled to Dominican Republic where they joined up with the Mariposa Foundation, which was started in 2009 by a group of children, adolescents, and caring adults who were inspired by past works and the urgent need for community- based solutions to end poverty. The trip was an amazing success and this year is set to be even bigger and the giving travels to Brazil and BCG is joining them. The mission of Immersion Excursions is to develop a globally conscious generation who purposefully coordinates their leisure with socially responsible activity by organizing and facilitating premiere vacations coupled with unique episodic volunteer engagements.
Inez Nelson tells BCG that she started Immersion Excursions because she realized she had a passion for giving and traveling. “I wanted to expose our culture to this opportunity. I wanted to go to the destinations where minorities travel to including Brazil, Africa and the Dominican Republic. I also found that most of the trips that are hosted were for three months and trulthfully those are not the kind of vacations we’re taking,” said Nelson.
By combining the best aspects of travel with a taste of voluntary service to the destination community, Immersion Excursions aims to bring clients a more culturally immersive vacation experience. The organization builds vacations for professionals and organizations that serve under-served youth.
This year the trip date and location as been set for Brazil and it’s in celebration of the age 30, titled 30 Turning 30, in which 30 professionals who are turning 30 are joined by their friends and families on a voluntourist vacation to celebrate the milestone. Travelers will take part in celebrations, sightseeing, and a number culturally immersive activities including a volunteer project with an established nonprofit in the destination community.
