J. Cole’s Dreamville Foundation Encourages Kids in Fayetteville, NC to Honor Their Mothers with the “Nobody’s Perfect” Writing Contest!

Recording artist J.Cole established the Dreamville Foundation in October 2011 to uplift the urban youth of Fayetteville, North Carolina by bridging the gap between them and the world of opportunities that are available. After moving to New York City to attend college, J. Cole realized the world has so much to offer beyond the borders of his hometown, Fayetteville. He strives to make the youth of Fayetteville aware of their potential and opportunities through promoting education and creating programs and events that will allow our youth to be “Set up for Success.” At an early age J. Cole knew he wanted to be a rapper, and through his foundation he encourages urban youth to have dreams, believe in their dreams, and achieve their dreams.

The mission of the foundation is to reveal to the urban youth, their limitless potential, through positive life- altering experiences.

The rapper and Fayetteville native is presenting the “Nobody’s Perfect” writing contest for local kids.

The contest encourages kids to honor their mothers using creative writing to express their gratitude. The contest is open to active youth members of Fayetteville Urban Ministry’s Find-A-Friend program.

The theme of the essay plays off Cole’s song, “Nobody’s Perfect,” which features Missy Elliott, and entrants must write an essay or poem completing the statement, ‘Nobody’s Perfect but my mother is perfect for me…’

Submissions must be a minimum of 50 words and a maximum of 350 words and only one entry per person will be accepted. All entries have to be written (typed or legibly written) solely by the child entering the contest. Entries will be judged 80 percent on is originality, insightfulness, creativity and completeness. The other 20 percent being organization and development of thoughts, use of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Ten winners will be selected and receive an invitation to The Dreamville Foundation’s inaugural Mother’s Day Brunch.
