Jada Pinkett-Smith honored as Harvard’s “Woman of the Year” by Black Student Population

“I’ve strived to show that we can be and do anything that we want,” she said after accepting the award and explaining how she wants to prove to other black women that they can do it all. Instead of giving a speech, Pinkett-Smith opened the floor to allow students to ask her questions and talked about her career, role models, family values and how to balance work and family.

“She did a great job,” event attendee Cheta G. Emba said. “She offered a lot of encouragement and tips for how Black women and women can make the most of the opportunities they are presented with. It was awesome.”

A group of black Harvard students recognized Jada Pinkett Smith this past weekend for her success as an actress, producer, director and singer-songwriter.

The Harvard Black Men’s Forum held their 18th annual Celebration of Black Women and named the wife of Will Smith “Woman of the Year.”

Female members of Harvard’s Black student population were also recognized for their academic achievements.

Pinkett signed on as the ambassador for Project Zambi was started by Hasbro to help provide funds for programs that care for children who have been orphaned by AIDS in Africa.
