Josh Howard Foundation Receives Grant from Winston-Sa​lem Foundation​’s Black Philanthro​py Initiative.

“The Winston-Salem Foundation’s Black Philanthropy Initiative is proud to support the Josh Howard Foundation’s Better Fathers for a Better Tomorrow initiative,” said Black Philanthropy Board Member Dr. Tony Burton. “The Josh Howard Foundation’s programming around father/son relationships is a great way for us to support our community and the at risk children within. Providing resources to this initiative is a great way to reinforce the values being promoted by the Josh Howard Foundation.”

The Better Fathers for a Better Tomorrow initiative launched this week during the Josh Howard Basketball Drills & Life Skills Camp, one of four events hosted by Howard during the Josh Howard Celebrity Weekend, which runs through Sunday, July 31. The initiative presented workshops to campers six through 16 years old; speakers included Keith Robinson, youth pastor, Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church; Kedrick Carpenter, one of the campers’ fathers; Reginald McCaskill, Program Manager for Piedmont-Triad Regional Council Service Corps, Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments; Pam Peoples-Joyner, Executive Director, Darryl Hunt Foundation; Gabriel Cannon, brother of Actor Nick Cannon; and Actress Kellita Smith. Campers’ workshop experience will culminate in an essay contest, the subject: what the phrase “no excuses” means to me.

Between August and November the Josh Howard Foundation’s Better Fathers for a Better Tomorrow initiative will host an additional four sessions for fathers and sons; dates, times and locations will be announced at a later date. The Josh Howard Foundation was presented with a grant for $5,000 by The Winston-Salem Foundation’s Black Philanthropy Initiative in support Howard’s newly launched program “Better Fathers for a Better Tomorrow;” which will run through November.
