Larenz Tate to be Honored for Work With Youth as Spokesperson for the BLOOM Initiative for Black Boys!

Beverly Hilton HotelThe Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals (LAULYP) has selected actor Larenz Tate as one of the Divine 9 to be honored at its 3rd Annual TO THE NINES Affair. This semi-formal star-studded event takes place on Friday, April 26, 2013 (9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.) at The Beverly Hilton.

TO THE NINES is hosted by the LAULYP, an auxiliary of the LA Urban League comprised of young African-American professionals committed to economic empowerment and social change. This swanky Beverly Hills bash will be the official after-party for the prestigious 40th Annual Whitney M. Young Awards Dinner, officiated by LAULYP’s parent organization the Los Angeles Urban League.

USC professor and National Poetry Slam champion Dr. Javon Johnson will serve as the TO THE NINES’ official master of ceremonies, while comedian Tahir Moore and LAULYP’s Gerreka Gilliam will serve as red carpet hosts. Music for the evening will be provided by DJ Dense of 93.5 KDAY.

” Ou r LAULYP leadership team is thrilled to honor these nine trailblazers in entertainment, business and community for their professional achievements and contributions to the Los Angeles community,” said LAULYP President Abby Harris.

Larenz Tate, critically-acclaimed actor (“Crash” and “Ray”) and spokesperson for Building a Lifetime of Opportunities and Options for Men (BLOOM), a bold initiative of the California Community Foundation (CCF) that focuses on improving the future of Black male youth involved with the L.A. County probation system.
Jameeka Green Aaron, Information Assurance Manager for Lockheed Martin Corporation
Malcolm Darrell, Founding General Manger for Ebony Repertory Theater
Joshua Fredenburg, Creator of the Circle of Change Leadership Conference
Andre Johnson, Executive Vice President for Magic Johnson Enterprises & Executive Director of the Magic Johnson Foundation
Michelle Merriweather, Business Development Manager for Starbucks Coffee
Breanna Morrison, Health Policy Analyst for Community Health Councils
Starlett Quarles, Owner and President of Urban X Marketing
Camille Townsend, Deputy Counsel for LA County’s Office for the Labor and Employment Division & President of Black Women Lawyers of Los Angeles
