Pro Baseball Player Edwin Jackson to Gift Deserving Families with Thanksgiving Dinner!

The holidays are upon us and  you know what that means; the giving will be plentiful! Pro baseball player Edwin Jackson is looking forward to partnering with the Housing Authority of Columbus to personally deliver Thanksgiving meals complete with all the trimmings, to 33 families on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 5pm to 7pm. The Columbus, GA native says it’s rewarding to be able to give back to his community, especially during the holidays when the focus of most Americans is creating memories with family.

The Columbus Housing Authority works with many of these families on a daily basis with the mission of empowering them to become self-sufficient. Len Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Columbus Housing Authority says the organization is extremely thankful to have Jackson’s generosity at a time when many of their families may not be able to provide their families with a holiday meal. “Our families are pursuing self-sufficiency by taking advantage of higher education, life skills and job training opportunities, youth summer programs, tutoring programs, on site Neighborhood Networks Resource Centers, literacy programs, health and nutritional programs, as well as home ownership education and home buying opportunities. Because of their hard work, drive and commitment, 33 families were invited to be a part of the Thanksgiving Holiday celebration with Edwin Jackson,” Williams explains.

Jackson is known for his philanthropic efforts, especially in his hometown of Columbus, GA. “These families were hand selected for their hard work and effort. Due to hard economic times across the country, it’s no surprise that many families need assistance. I’m blessed to be able to come back to my own community and make a difference,’ Jackson says.

Members from the Columbus Housing Authority will join Jackson on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 20th to visit with these families and present them with a Thanksgiving meal consisting of a turkey, sides, rolls and dessert.
