Geechie Gurl, Inc. Presents the Pay-it-Forward Event of the Year: The 40/40 Celebration Series!

Loss of businesses, job cuts, foreclosures, more stress, and students unable to attend and/or stay in school have become a huge aspect of communities across the United States due to a struggling economy. These events have caused communities to become weak and to lose a sense of hope. Geechie Gurl, Incorporated plans to empower and inspire individuals and to restore that hope and strength in families and communities with its 40/40 Celebration Series, which is geared toward supporting and uplifting families and communities.

Geechie Gurl, Incorporated is a community based nonprofit organization that assists individuals in setting effective goals that enhance their education, family life, and career aspirations. The organization establishes assistance and mentoring to facilitate the steps involved in the accomplishment of set goals through workshops and networking projects.

To celebrate the CEO’s 40th birthday this year, Geechie Gurl, Inc. will host 40 networking and competitive events that will benefit local charities and the Betty Brown Memorial Scholarship fund. The aim of the 40/40 Celebration Series is to provide unique opportunities for individuals to network, gain exposure for their business and give back to the community in a way that someone or something is changed for the better simultaneously. The first event, “Operation Educate”, raised over $1000 in less than 24 hours using solely Facebook and Twitter for a young man needing tuition assistance at SC State University. This is the kind of organization Geechie Gurl, Inc. is and the passion behind the 40/40 Celebration Series. The most recent event took place Saturday February 11, 2012. Geechie Gurl, Inc. participated in The Action Not Words Project, Inc.’s “Taking Love To the Streets”. This was a distribution of “Love Bags” to area homeless. The “Love Bags” were made with donated hygiene products from a prior event called “Battle of the Bubbles” Geechie Gurl, Inc. held during Atlanta’s annual Honda Battle of the Bands. Some products were even mailed in from Tennessee! Volunteers delivered “Love Bags” to homeless in parks, under bridges and underpasses, and wherever there was a need. March will be dedicated to youth and women rebuilding their lives as we celebrate and fund-raise through events such as “Project Prom”, the “Pastry, Pocketbooks, and Purpose” Pastry Battle, and the official birthday celebration, “Heels for Healing”. This event, held at Spotlight Boutique in Decatur on March 7th at 4:00 pm, will include a shoe raffle and a competitive portion where the participant with the “fiercest” walk in heels on our red carpet will win a prize. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charitable agencies.

Agencies that will benefit from this series are the Auburn Senior Center, Enchanted Closet of Atlanta, The Genesis House, SC State University, and area homeless and abuse centers. Geechie Gurl, Inc. is partnering with The Action Not Words Project, incorporated, a 501 (c) 3 organization; therefore, all donations are tax deductible.

Help make this series a success and a true community effort through donations of all kinds and through volunteering your time. Together, let’s join CEO and Founder Erica M. Alcox in empowering, inspiring, and uplifting individuals in our communities and restoring HOPE to communities throughout the world! In her own words, “If I can’t serve, I don’t deserve!”
