Steve Harvey Hosts Detroit Mentoring Weekend for Young Men; Also Seeks Mentors!

Steve-Harvey-Mentoring-ProgramTV show host, comedian, best-selling author, and top radio host Steve Harvey and The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation will host an empowering weekend mentoring 100 young men in the Detroit metro area. Taking place at the Northwest Activities Center in Detroit, the three day program will run from September 27th to the 29th. Embracing 100 young men with an array of influential learning sessions including team building, physical fitness, and motivational discussions, this transformative program helps educate and inspire these young men to strive for a better tomorrow and support the awareness that they can take charge of their futures. With encouraging words from guest speakers including James Edwards, Judge Mathis, Ed Gordon, Pastor Marvin L. Winans, Mateen Cleaves, Benny Napoleon and more, these sessions include focus on key principles of manhood, leadership and dream building.

This activity-filled mentoring program provides assistance and direction to young men 13-18 from single female-headed households who are experiencing trials as they navigate through their adolescent years. In addition to key speakers that host an array of inspirational messages and powerful stories in sessions like “You Can Be Me” and “Street Life Realities,” there will also be educational opportunities with a welcome expo of local colleges and universities, resource organizations, scholar programs, and local employers, special awards presentations, fitness activities and more.

Harvey says, “We want these young men to gain an experience that is not taught in a classroom with real talk and genuine issues of everyday life. We want to empower them in a positive way with a refreshing environment and open their imaginations beyond what they already know. With the opportunity to take part in a mentoring program focused on their future potential and dreams, these young men will walk away knowing that no dreams are too big and the tools to take charge of achieving them.”

The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men in Detroit includes support from Beans and Cornbread, Andiamo, McDonald’s, U.S. Army, Kroger, Fifth Third Bank, Mix 92.3-FM, and AT&T.
