The Society for Girls Inc. to Host Girls Inspire Summit Saturday, September 8, 2012!

The Society for Girls Inc., will hostthe Girls Inspire Summit at The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library inWashington DC. The event will be hosted by Janaye Ingram who serves asthe DC Bureau Chief of the National Action Network. The panelists includeGrammy Award winning singer and actress, LeToya Luckett and NBCWashington’s traffic reporter, Danella Sealock. The welcome to theprogram will be given via video by Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson,with more panelists to come.

The Girls Inspire Summit is aimed to raise awareness to the misrepresentationof young girls and women in the media. One hundred girls between the ages of 11and 17 will have the opportunity to discuss their thoughts, concerns, and fearsin regards to the media’s skewed image of beauty. The panelists and activitieswill speak to the overall theme of teaching young girls to be true tothemselves, take a more critical view of the images the media portrays, andencourage them to diligently pursue their dreams.

This two-part event will include a panel discussion led by the previouslymentioned notable women in the entertainment industry, followed by a visionboard workshop. The workshop presented by LOGO 4 LIFE, will allow thegirls in attendance to make visual representations of their future and createtheir own logo for their lives, not based on beauty or looks but their goals,strengths and character. Games and other activities will also be set up for thegirls to enjoy and learn more about media literacy. Major sponsor for the GirlsInspire Summit is Wells Fargo bank. Female powerhouse, DJ Ladee Elle will also be inattendance, spinning to create high energy. Girls can register for the summit here!
