BCG Exclusive Interview with G-Unit’s Shawty Lo and the L.O.L.O Foundation!

BCG had the unique opportunity to talk with Shawty Lo on his Loving Our Little Ones – L.O.L.O Foundation! As you know, we love our celebrities that give back and of course we love our little ones too!

BCG: Tell me more about “Loving Our Little Ones”? How did it get started? What drives your passion behind your charity?
Shawty Lo: I started L.O.L.O in November of 2009 because I always did things around my hood but I started wanting to do bigger things and be able to help more families. My passion behind my charity comes from being that child that had to go without and I wanted to help put smiles on other kids faces.

BCG: What annual events does “Loving Our Little Ones” host to bring awareness/fund raise?
Shawty Lo: I always do a back to school drive. I link up with Hosea Feed the Hungry for Thanksgiving and for Christmas L.O.L.O also does toy drives during the holiday’s where we pass out gifts on Bankhead.

BCG: What is the target age group/demographic “LOL” supports? Why is this age group/demographic so critical?
Shawty Lo: I support uplifting our youth but even as adults we need help. I target youth because I feel they are slipping away, which is sad because they are what will make our future. I remember respecting my elders and having Sunday dinner every week, even though it was a struggle but it was all love and everybody came together.

BCG: How can others get involved with your cause within their local communities?
Shawty Lo: My team is working on doing some outreach programs in the community so just stay tuned for more information about that.

BCG: What are your major accomplishments/awards?
Shawty Lo: Before I started L.O.L.O, I did a big event on Bankhead where we had food, a dj, prizes for the kids, face painting, diabetes testing and gave out bags of healthy groceries to families. It was good to be able to do that for my community. I don’t look for no awards, I feel rewarded by seeing my people happy and having a good time.

BCG: What final words of wisdom would you’d like to share with our readers?
Shawty Lo: As long as you do something and get involved, that’s all that counts.

BCG: Anything additional you’d like to add?
Shawty Lo: Anything you can do no matter how big or small is seen by a greater power!

BCG: Where can we find out more information about your charity?
Shawty Lo: I’m having my website redone and getting the social networking sites going but if you have any questions about my non-profit you can email them to: l.o.l.ones09@gmail.com.

BCG: Our slogan here at BCG is “Giving back is good for the soul;” What does “Giving back is good for the soul” mean to you?
Shawty Lo: My motto has always been to turn a negative into a positive. So, giving back helps me to correct a lot of the wrongs I’ve made in my life and that feels good to my soul.
