Charity Spotlight: The Glass Slipper Foundation

Vessels Interceding Sowing Into Our Nation (VISION Inc.) was created in 2009 to assist the community who had fallen on hard times and needed every day essentials. Because of the founders personal experience with teen pregnancy, poverty and homelessness, she wanted to do something for those who were experiencing that obstacle in their lives.

Through the ministry, Greater New Vision Church, the group began to collect non perishable items, toiletries, shoes, and clothing to distribute to families in need and the homeless of our community. Each first Saturday of the month, they visited a family that was referred through apartment managers and blessed them with their need. In October of 2009, the foundation held a coat and blanket drive to try and assist those who could not afford to provide these for their children and family. These coats were donated to children of single parent homes and teens in a residential treatment facility. While visiting with the teen girls in the facility, members met a young lady who had been in treatment facilities since age 5 and had no clue who or where her family members were. She was then a senior in high school and wanted the opportunity to experience equal opportunities as her senior peers… she wanted to attend her senior prom. VISION Inc. made her a promise that is she was able to maintain her behavior levels in the facility, VISION would make sure that she had every thing she needed to attend the prom.

With that promise to one came a promise to a million more, The Glass Slipper Foundation (TGS) was established. TGS now provides formal and semi formal attire to economically challenged teens who desire to attend a social school event but does not have the means to do so. VISION Inc. collects donated inventory from the community and gives teens the opportunity to come in and shop as they would in the mall!! In March of 2011, the group hosted their first annual shopping day where we partnered with the North Forest and Aldine ISD and provided over 80 girls with dresses, shoes, and accessories to attend their high school prom.

Currentley the orgnization’s project is to provide our teens with backpacks of hygiene and other items to assist them while they are in transition. The long term goal for VISION is to build a drop-in center in Houston, TX where teens can come and enjoy the luxury of a home environment with some of the activities equal to their peers.
