Charity Spotlight: DC Running Club

The DC Running Club, founded in 2008 is non-profit organization dedicated to engaging communities within DC, MD and VA of all ages to achieve fitness through walking and running. Their strategic focus and determination is propelling The DC Running Club as one of the premier running organizations in the USA.

The DC Running Club pledge to their members is to always host exceptional programs, well-managed events and social activities that will give walkers / runners of all ages and abilities a chance to have fun, get fit and be healthy. They are a school and community oriented, and our five year goal is to provide $5,000 in scholarship race winnings to students of DC, MD & VA. We also want to enrich the lives of our members, our volunteers, sponsors and community partners by working together for a common goal. The main cause of the DC Running Club is to raise funds and awareness about Childhood Obesity. “Over the past three decades, the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents aged 12-19 years, and it has more than tripled for children aged 6-11 years. At present, approximately nine million children over 6 years of age are considered obese.” – activelivingresources.com.

The DC Running Club has a goal to highlight this epidemic three times a year through walking / running events, a Presidential Fitness Program and Social Gatherings. They look forward to working with kids from Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia and educating them on the benefits of exercising. The group has created a FREE Six Month Kids Running Program, where kids in DC will run 25 miles over the six month program and complete the last 1.2 miles running through Six Flags America to complete 26.2 miles (A Full Marathon).
