Grant Alert: The Starbucks Foundation Offers Youth Leadership Grants

Grant Alert: The Starbucks Foundation Offers Youth Leadership GrantsStarbucks is more than just coffee ladies and gentlemen, it’s about giving too. The organization is continually looking for innovative ways to help strengthen our communities. And while most organizations seek change from adults, Starbucks is seeking to innovate through youth. I love it, after all our children are the future. With the Starbucks Youth Leadership Grants, (Youth Action Grants in 2012) Starbucks hopes to develop young people to become extraordinary leaders, by investing in the leadership skills required for the changing global economy.  The Starbucks Foundation believes in developing young people to become extraordinary leaders, by investing in the leadership skills required for the changing global economy.

At this time there are more than 1.2 billion 15 to 24 year olds, the largest global cohort of young people in history. Unfortunately, a growing number of these young people are disengaged and unemployed, often referred to as NEET (not engaged in employment, education, or training).

The Starbucks Foundation is interested in supporting organizations that equip young people ages 15 to 24 years old in the three following areas:

  • Business Savvy: Having the ability to leverage opportunities with integrity and innovation; to make good decisions and achieve results.
  • Social Conscience: Valuing the impact an individual and enterprise can have on the community.
  • Collaborative Communication: Engaging others in an inclusive manner across teams, functions and cultures; ability to leverage new and creative ways of communication.

Grant Guidelines and Process

Please review the refined Youth Leadership Grant guidelines.

The Starbucks Foundation reviews the submissions on an annual basis; we accept letters of inquiry from November 1st to December 15th through our online system. The Starbucks Foundation only reviews Youth Leadership Grant requests during this timeframe and does not accept unsolicited proposals through the mail. We are not accepting letters of inquiry at this time.

The Starbucks Foundation is currently reviewing all submissions from the most recent letter of inquiry process and will contact the organizations we would like to invite to submit a full grant proposal. The Starbucks Foundation will announce Youth Leadership Grants in the spring of 2014. BCG wishes you good luck with this application and remember the only way to get grants is to apply!
