Jim Brown and the Amer- I- Can Program!

When you think of causes that really create social change there are a ton, yet one that is often un-talked about is rehabilitation. One man, Jim Brown is on a mission to help others reach their full potential with the Amer-I-Can foundation. Amer-I-Can was founded in 1988 by NFL Hall of Famer, Actor and Activist, Jim Brown. The program goal is to help enable individuals to meet their academic potential, to conform their behavior to acceptable society standards, and to improve the quality of their lives by equipping them with the critical life management skills to confidently and successfully contribute to society. The training initially focuses on attitude modification designed to heighten the individual’s self esteem and motivate them toward positive behavior. With a positive attitude and a desire to improve their quality of life, trainees are taught the techniques of life skills and learn to take responsibility for their lives and destination through self determination.

The Amer-I-Can Philosophy
Amer-I-Can believes that the failure in personal development and the lack of self-esteem are the root causes of the aforementioned problems that plague our society today. By enlarging the scope of individual lives, by introducing them to self-determination techniques, by motivating them with goals, by showing them how to improve and achieve success and financial stability, Amer-I-Can will save lives that now seem to be lost.

The Amer-I-Can Program is designed to assist in the development of each trainee’s personal skills in nine critical areas.
1. Motivation, Conditioning, Attitudes & Habits
2. Goal-Setting
3. Problem-Solving & Decision-Making
4. Emotional Control
5. Family Relationships
6. Financial Stability
7. Effective Communication
8. Job Search & Retention
9. Drug & Alcohol Abuse

Seems to me that Jim Brown has outlined a program sure to help many, with continued support and awareness of such a program, rehabilitation can certainly be on the rise. We need to encourage programs that outline transformation within our communities and promote social change!
