The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation Brings Together Influential Women to Mentor 100 Teenage Girls at 2nd Annual Girls Who Rule The World Weekend!

After a successful debut in 2010, The Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation will host the second annual Girls Who Rule The World Mentoring Weekend (GWRTW) to help teenage girls from diverse backgrounds successfully navigate the pressures and pitfalls of teenage life.  Held on October 28-30, 2011 at the Marriott Evergreen Conference Center, this three-day, two night program will include influential women from business, music and entertainment who will share from their own personal blueprint for success and help the young women selected establish long-term goals.

With Georgia ranking number one in teenage girl high school drop outs and third in the nation in the prostitution of them, Marjorie Harvey is hosting GWRTW to give the teenage girls of Georgia the tools to recognize and develop personal goals for success. The weekend events aim to help teenage women build strong peer relationships, increase self-reliance and bolster self-esteem.  Says Marjorie Harvey, “I am so proud of what we accomplished last year at GWRTW.  It was a weekend of personal lessons, encouragement, music and fun!  This year we hope to expand on all that was taught last year and also continue to encourage them, boost their self-esteem and let them know that we love and support them.”

Not forgetting last year’s mentees, Marjorie Harvey along with keynote speaker Susan Taylor, CEO of National CARES Mentoring Movement and last year conference speaker, Vicki Palmer, will host a Mid Year Session on September 11, 2011 to re-emphasize the lessons they learned during the inaugural GWRTW Weekend.  “It is necessary that we take the reins and be proactive in teaching our young women the value of education and pursuing excellence in their lives,” says Susan Taylor.  “I am happy to be able to partake in this Mid Year Session to help reinforce all that was taught last year and to encourage all that participated to continue to reach for their goals, no matter how high.”

The first annual GWRTW weekend included interactive activities and seminars and included a who’s who of trusted female partners including Essence Magazine’s Mikki Taylor, actress/talk show host Sherri Shepherd, CBS News Correspondent Shannon Els and singer Keri Hilson , among others.  This year’s speakers will be announced shortly who will be on hand to impart wisdom, resources and to help guide girls through the importance of balanced nutrition, proper etiquette, positive self-esteem and professional development.

Teenage girls from the ages of 13-18 living in the metro Atlanta, GA area are invited to participate in the second annual GWRTW weekend.  Eligible participants must currently be enrolled in an accredited middle/high school; they must also complete an application and write and submit a 300-word essay on peer pressure, teenage sex or body image.  The launch date to submit an application is August 2, 2011 and submission deadline is September 5, 2011.  To apply and for more information, please log onto www.girlswhoruletheworld.org.
